Job Title: Maintenance Technician
Program/Department: Facilities
Reports to: Facility Director
FLSA Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt, Hourly
Supervisory Responsibility: None
Position Summary: The Maintenance Technician reports to the Facilities Director and supports maintaining Greensboro Urban Ministry's (GUM) real estate portfolio, including multiple shelter programs/locations and a large multi-service site. The Maintenance Technician will work with GUM's internal operations team to address building system needs, maintenance, repairs, and refurbishment. Performs maintenance and repairs related to buildings, grounds, and equipment in one or more areas, such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, painting, and grounds.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM. Must be available for on-call after hours work on a rotating basis.
Pay Rate: $21.00-$24.00/Hour
Essential Functions:
- Perform building maintenance and repairs at the direction of the Facilities Director.
- Must be willing to make building repairs to include painting, plumbing, minor electrical, carpentry and preventative maintenance on HVAC and life safety systems.
- Working with the Facilities Director daily to ensure that safety and security are a priority.
- Be available for on-call after-hours work on a rotating basis.
- Must have own tools.
- Must be punctual and dependable.
- Must be able to travel to other local properties to do building maintenance and repairs as the need arises at the direction of the Facilities Director. Must have own reliable transportation.
- Must be familiar with running projects and working with contractors when the Facilities Director is not available.
- Other duties as the Facilities Director may deem necessary.

- Tools and equipment such as screwdrivers, wrenches, hammers, various power tools, etc.
- General office environment, exposure to computer screen
- Warehouse environment, hot/cold temperatures, dust, truck fumes
- Requires both inside and outside work, including getting on roofs.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Two years of experience preferred.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Speaking, standing, sitting, walking, driving, writing, keyboarding, and problem solving.
- Knowledge of property, kitchen, and warehouse equipment.
- Judgment and initiative are required in analyzing and evaluating situations.
- Must be able to climb a step ladder.
- Must be able to lift at least 25 lbs. and request assistance when lifting, when necessary, from staff.
- Knowledge of standard tools, materials, methods, and practices involved in building maintenance and repair including carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting.
