Facility Support Specialist

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general custodial, minor maintenance and light grounds keeping work in the care and maintenance of assigned school buildings and facilities. Employee is also responsible for requisitioning necessary cleaning supplies and creating work orders. Reports to the Custodial Area Manager.

Essential job functions include opening the building and inspecting for damage, checking heating and cooling equipment, dusting and mopping halls, cleaning entrance mats and glass surfaces, picking up paper and debris, sweeping entrance ways, removing breakfast trash, making minor maintenance repairs, policing boiler room and utility closets, cleaning up student accidents, assisting in set-up/breakdown of equipment for special events, assisting with receiving and storing supplies, being familiar with fuse boxes, breakers and lights, policing restrooms and reloading dispensers, policing dining area during lunch, coordinating HVAC filter changes, performing touch up painting, cleaning spots, smudges and fingerprints from doors and windows, changing ceiling tiles and light bulbs, vacuuming carpets, removing interior graffiti, removing snow and ice from walkways, completing work orders for Maintenance, ensuring adequate supplies for use by Contractor, and taking care of emergencies and other tasks as directed by the Principal.

Performs other related work as required. Graduation from high school with considerable experience in custodial work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina. Physical requirements include operating vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, small hand tools, etc. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Physical demand requirements are for medium work. Interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, and physical communication are also required.

General knowledge of standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in janitorial work. General knowledge of safety precautions and warning signals regarding school building equipment. Some knowledge of cleaning procedures and the use of cleaning materials. Ability to give and follow instructions. Ability to perform medium physical work. Ability to exercise independent judgment and initiative in completing work assignments. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignments.
