Facility Support Specialist

Under general supervision, performs a variety of general custodial, minor maintenance and light grounds keeping work in the care and maintenance of assigned school buildings and facilities. Employee is also responsible for requisitioning necessary cleaning supplies and creating work orders. Reports to the Custodial Area Manager.

Essential job functions include opening the building and inspecting for damage, checking heating and cooling equipment, dusting and mopping halls, cleaning entrance mats and glass surfaces, picking up paper and debris, sweeping entrance ways, removing breakfast trash, making minor maintenance repairs, policing boiler room and utility closets, cleaning up student accidents, assisting in set-up/breakdown of equipment for special events, assisting with receiving and storing supplies, familiarizing with fuse boxes, breakers and lights, policing restrooms and reloading dispensers, policing dining area during lunch, coordinating HVAC filter changes, performing touch up painting, cleaning spots, smudges and fingerprints, changing ceiling tiles and light bulbs, vacuuming carpets, removing interior graffiti, removing snow and ice, completing work orders for Maintenance, ensuring adequate supplies for use by Contractor, and taking care of emergencies and other tasks as directed by the Principal.

Performs other related work as required. Graduation from high school with considerable experience in custodial work or an equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina. Category "A" employees are governed by Guilford County Schools Policy GA and Administrative Procedure GA-P, "Drug and Alcohol Free Workplace," which spells out specific drug testing requirements, procedures and consequences of positive alcohol or drug tests or arrest for alleged violation of any alcohol or drug-related offense.

Physical requirements include operating vacuum cleaners, carpet shampooers, brooms, mops, small hand tools, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Data conception, interpersonal communication, language ability, intelligence, verbal aptitude, numerical aptitude, form/spatial aptitude, motor coordination, manual dexterity, and minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination are also required.
