Position Overview
Greenville ISD is seeking dependable and hardworking Custodians to support the cleanliness, safety, and overall appearance of district campuses and facilities. This position plays an essential role in providing a clean and healthy learning environment for students and staff.
Primary Purpose
Perform routine custodial duties to maintain district buildings, classrooms, restrooms, and common areas in a clean, safe, and orderly condition in accordance with district standards and safety guidelines.
Qualifications
Education / Certification:
- High school diploma or GED preferred (not required)
- Ability to follow cleaning procedures, safety practices, and verbal/written instructions
- Knowledge of proper use of cleaning chemicals and equipment
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Dependable attendance and strong work ethic
- Prior custodial or cleaning experience preferred
Cleaning & Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, hallways, offices, restrooms, and common areas
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, and wax floors as needed
- Empty trash and dispose of waste properly
- Refill restroom and cleaning supplies
- Assist with setting up and taking down furniture for events or campus activities
- Report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors promptly
- Ensure assigned areas are secure and properly maintained
- Follow district safety procedures and proper chemical handling guidelines
- Use cleaning equipment safely and correctly
- Maintain cleanliness standards to support a healthy school environment
Physical Demands:
- Frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, and lifting of cleaning supplies
- Ability to move furniture and operate custodial equipment
- Work indoors and outdoors as assigned
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, and varying temperatures
- Ability to complete tasks efficiently and maintain attention to detail
- Maintain professionalism and emotional control in a school environment
- Support safe and welcoming learning environments for students
- Work in a stable, team-oriented department
- Year-round schedule aligned with district facility needs
- Make a meaningful contribution to campus operations every day
