Greenwich Country Day School is seeking a dependable and skilled General Maintenance Worker to join our Facilities team. This role is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and upkeep of school buildings and grounds, ensuring a safe, clean, and functional learning environment. While general maintenance duties are the focus, candidates with strong plumbing and electrical experience are highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities- Perform general building maintenance, including minor repairs, painting, carpentry, and equipment upkeep
- Conduct plumbing-related repairs, including faucets, toilets, sinks, drains, and basic water lines
- Perform basic electrical maintenance and repairs, such as replacing outlets, switches, light fixtures, ballasts, and troubleshooting minor electrical issues
- Diagnose maintenance issues and perform timely repairs
- Conduct preventative maintenance on building systems and equipment
- Respond to work orders and urgent or emergency maintenance needs
- Assist with classroom, office, and event setup and breakdown
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe, organized manner
- Support seasonal duties such as grounds maintenance, snow removal, and campus upkeep
- Collaborate with facilities staff and outside contractors as needed
- Regularly lift and move equipment or materials weighing up to 50 pounds; position self to access equipment under counters or at heights; climb ladders to access fixtures; and work in varying weather conditions
- Operate maintenance vehicles to transport tools, supplies, and equipment across campus; assist in moving furniture and materials between buildings
- Drive school‑owned trucks or vans as needed to support maintenance activities and facility setup
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 3–5 years of general maintenance or related trade experience preferred
- 5+ years of plumbing and/or electrical experience preferred
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem‑solving skills
- Valid driver’s license and insurability (required) to operate school vehicles as part of the maintenance duties
- Dependable, punctual, and safety‑conscious
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a busy school environment
- Professional and respectful demeanor when working around students and staff
- Team‑oriented with a positive attitude
- Attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Indoor and outdoor school campus settings
- Exposure to tools, equipment, varying weather conditions, and maintenance‑related hazards
- Occasional evening, weekend, or emergency response will be required
