Position: Fisheries Maintenance Technician (Part-Time)

Job Summary

In coordination with program faculty and dean, performs a variety building and equipment maintenance functions at the Mt. Hood Community College (MHCC) Fisheries building. Performs a wide range of maintenance and troubleshooting duties. Maintains the care of the Fisheries building, grounds, and hatchery. Maintains hatchery tanks and equipment to ensure the safety of onsite fish. Coordinates with MHCC facilities and public safety on projects as needed.

Maintains hatchery plumbing, boats, trailers and other specialized equipment. Operates a variety of commercial equipment and tools.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
  • Operates and maintains equipment, hatchery, vehicles, and boats in a safe manner, fuels, cleans, and performs routine preventative maintenance and daily checks on all items used to perform tasks. Informs Facilities team and fleet mechanic of needed repairs.
  • Orders a wide range of supplies and materials in coordination with facilities management and maintains supply documentation and order logs. Tracks fisheries processes and projects.
  • Inspects Fisheries building and grounds for potential safety hazards, makes corrections, and reports unique hazardous conditions to facilities management. Responds to work order requests in a timely manner.
  • Maintains work areas in a clean and orderly fashion and considers personal and public safety a priority while performing work duties. Maintains safety of fish population.
  • Additional Duties
  • May participate in professional development activities and attend in-service sessions and division meetings.
  • May direct aides and work-study students as assigned.
  • Contributes to the creation and maintenance of a respectful work environment with the facilities staff, College staff, students, and the public.
  • Under the direction of facilities management, provides assistance to all other facilities department staff as workload and staffing levels dictate.
  • Serves as a member of the emergency crew during emergencies or other critical situations, as identified by administration.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • Minimum Qualifications
    • Associate’s degree
      OR technical, vocational, or apprenticeship program related to the position
    • Two (2) years’ experience of increasing responsibility in construction, maintenance or a hatchery
    • Proven mechanical abilities and capable of operating and maintaining commercial equipment, tools, buildings, and grounds
    • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time frequently and occasionally lift materials weighing up to 90 pounds, without assistance and possesses extensive body mobility
    • Current driver license and the ability to be insured by the college insurance carrier to drive college owned or leased vehicles. Must have at least three (3) years of driving history
    • Beginner (limited) skills in word processing, spreadsheet, and email applications, all preferably within the Microsoft Office Suite

    • Ability to maintain a respectful work environment with the facilities staff, College staff, students, and the public
    Working Conditions

    Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Operates potentially hazardous equipment and tools. Work can be physically demanding, occasionally requiring the ability to move boat engines or materials unassisted, up to 50 pounds and up to 90 pounds. Requires extensive mobility: the ability to stand, sit, bend, kneel, stoop, reach, lift and carry objects and manipulate items overhead. Regular exposure to chemicals such as gasoline, diesel, and paint.

    Work may require the ability to work irregular hours and report to work during building maintenance emergencies that threaten the health and safety of the fish, weather conditions or any other situation that might require a campus closure. Requires the ability to drive college-owned vehicles.

    Salary Placement

    Initial salary placement will be within the posted range or pay rate of the position, and is based on applicable education and/or years of relevant full-time equivalent experience at the sole discretion of the College and in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws. Please include all relevant education and full and part-time experience (including unpaid and volunteer experience) in your application that you want the College to review towards potential placement.
