Position: The custodian is expected to gradually assume the role of caretaker of the school building and facilities, demonstrating a sense of responsibility for their upkeep and well-being similar to that exercised over personal possessions. This position is vital to the effective functioning of the school, as the custodian is responsible not only for maintenance, cleaning, and care of the facilities, but also for interacting with people, particularly children.
A spirit of Christian love, concern, friendliness, and helpfulness is essential and aligns with the school's mission of nurturing young disciples and developing leadership. The custodian should have an understanding of children and their need for guidance, recognizing that younger children respond positively to encouragement and kindness, while older students may require firmness combined with Christian understanding. While disrespect should not be tolerated and serious or repeated incidents should be reported to the principal, most students respond well to fairness, consistency, and approachability.
The custodian operates under the supervision of the school principal, who consults with the School Board Chairperson as necessary.
