A Head Custodian II is responsible for the care of a large elementary school's physical facilities, including all buildings and grounds. The role requires working the day shift and supervising other custodians.

• High school diploma/GED
• Mechanical aptitude
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing
• Minimum two (2) years' experience in commercial cleaning and building maintenance
• Minimum two (2) years' experience supervising employees
• Knowledge of tools and equipment for minor maintenance and operations, including furniture assembly
• Ability to use computer systems for work functions such as ordering supplies, entering work orders and emailing
• Willingness to participate in in‑service training programs
• Regular and predictable attendance
• Ability to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations

• Ability to diagnose minor issues within a school system's plumbing, mechanical and equipment systems

• Maintain the physical plant of the school
• Perform all phases of interior cleaning using hand and machine tools
• Acquire and develop knowledge of the school's mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
• Develop proficiency in use and care of emergency lighting, fire protection and security systems
• Perform and direct all phases of grounds‑keeping, including snow removal
• Make minor repairs to equipment and buildings
• Conduct monthly safety checks of the entire facility
• Order supplies and maintain inventory
• Operate all types of mechanical equipment
• Provide required services to athletic facilities and programs
• Assist principal and staff with co‑curricular and extracurricular activities
• Provide custodial services to groups using the school after hours and on non‑school days

• Train and provide orientation to new custodians in cleaning materials and equipment use
• Coordinate second shift staff assignments
• Develop a summer cleaning program
• Keep employees advised of BOE policies and practices, interpreting and explaining as necessary
• Review and evaluate staff performance monthly and adjust process to improve performance
• Provide managerial training for the Lead Custodian
• Demonstrate courteous and professional demeanor toward all stakeholders of Washington County Public Schools
• Perform other duties as assigned
