JOB TITLE: Airport Equipment Operator/Firefighter GRADE 11

REPORTSTO: Airport Maintenance Supervisor
GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:Performs intermediate protective service work operating fire apparatus in emergency situations and difficult semiskilledandskilledworkoperatingandmaintainingautomotiveandconstructionequipmentandmonitoring electrical circuits, runwayand taxiway lightsandgeneralmaintenance of theairportand associated facilities. Direction is provided by the Airport Maintenance Supervisor.

Through knowledge of the principles and practices of operating light to medium construction and snow removal, equipment; thorough knowledge of the trafficlawsand regulations governing equipment operation; thoroughknowledgeoftheoccupationalhazardsinvolvedandthesafetyprecautionsnecessarytotheproper operation of varied construction and maintenance equipment; some knowledge of the standard techniques andpracticesofhighvoltage(480volt) electrical wiring,someknowledgeofFAAairfieldlightingspecifications; some knowledge of airport radio procedures; some knowledge of applicable safety precautions of the trade; ability to perform manual labor in varying weather conditions;
ability to make minor repairs and adjustments to equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and thorough knowledge of Aircraft Rescue Firefightingand associated equipment operations. Ability to be flexible in work schedule and work holidays and weekends as required.
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and considerable experience in operation and maintenance of light to medium motorized equipment including fire apparatus and aminimum of five years fire service experience.
Airline ground handling experience desirable.
This is heavy work requiring the exertion of 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping,kneeling,crouching,crawling,standing,walking,pushing,pulling,lifting,fingering,grasping,feeling, and repetitive motions; vocalcommunication is requiredforexpressing orexchanging ideas bymeans of the spokenword,and conveyingdetailedorimportantinstructionstoothersaccurately,loudly,orquickly;hearing is required to perceive informationatnormalspoken word levels, andto receive detailed information through oral communications and/ortomake finedistinctions in sound;
visual acuity is required fordepthperception, color perception, night vision, peripheral vision, visual inspection involving smalldefectsand/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or…
