Performing Arts Shop Assistant
Hagerstown, MD. The Performing Arts Shop Assistant supports the daily operations of the performing arts at HCC through job duties that include inventory management and purchasing, workspace organization, event support and basic clothing alterations. This role is ideal for someone with a desire to work in supporting theater activities, organizational skills and who is eager to contribute to both the creative and logistical aspects of a performing arts area.
This is a part‑time position for 20 hours per week.
Organizational Relationships- The Assistant reports directly to the Theater Technician.
- The Assistant coordinates closely with the Director of the English & Humanities Division, Art/Theater Assistant, HU Division Office Associate, and faculty from Theater and Dance departments.
- This position requires working in conjunction with assigned student workers.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date inventory; pull items from inventory as needed to support performance needs. Complete the purchasing process as needed with the guidance of the show designer and Theater Technician.
- Assist with periodic inventory audits and restocking of consumable items.
- Facilitate external rentals, including check‑out/check‑in procedures.
- Provide backstage support during tech rehearsals and performances as needed.
- Responsible for the cleanliness, organization, and safety of dressing rooms, storage spaces and related areas.
- Support general shop tasks and special projects as assigned; fabric maintenance including laundry, steaming, and sanitizing of theater show items.
- Serve as additional technical support for events as needed.
- Assist with basic clothing maintenance.
- High School diploma;
Associate’s Degree preferred; theater experience preferred.
