Overview of Housing and Resident Education Custodian
The Housing Department is seeking a Housing and Resident Custodian for our New Calumet Hall Dorm. This position ensures a well‑maintained facility to promote a clean, safe, and healthy environment for Purdue University Northwest (PNW) students and staff. The custodian provides custodial services primarily in the residence hall public areas, including entrance ways, stairwells, lounges, hallways, restrooms, and residential rooms. Duties include sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, stripping, waxing, buffing, scrubbing, carpet cleaning, power washing restrooms, cleaning windows, and maintaining equipment.
The custodian works independently with minimal supervision and may travel to other PNW locations as needed.
- $15.00/hour
- Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm
- Occasional evening or weekend work
- Clean and sanitize public and common areas of University Village, including lobbies, conference rooms, hallways, stairwells, and public restrooms.
- Clean unoccupied resident rooms and apartments, including rooms in otherwise occupied apartments.
- Move furniture to ensure all areas of apartments are cleaned properly.
- Perform trash and recycling duties, including collecting and emptying bins.
- Assist in training student staff for summer cleaning projects.
- Assist maintenance in basic repairs such as replacing light bulbs and updating electronic locks.
- Assist with lockouts during business hours.

- Requires a high school diploma/GED.
- No experience required.
- Previous custodial/janitorial experience preferred.
- Basic computer skills required.
- Communicate and provide feedback related to Work Unit.
- Must be able to bend, kneel, climb a ladder up to 6 ft. high.
- Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs.
- Demonstrate stable work history.
- Ability to work adjusted schedule dependent upon area of coverage.
- Ability to work overtime to meet the business needs of the University.
- Perform other related duties as requested.
