Position: Public Works/Fleet - Fleet Tech (Heavy Off Road Shop)
The City of Hampton's Public Works Fleet Division is looking for aFleet Technician to work in our Heavy Off Road Shop!  Are you looking for a role where your technical skills truly matter? As part of our team, you'll perform advanced maintenance and repair on a wide range of vehicles and equipment, focusing on dump trucks, construction equipment, earth moving equipment, trailers, street sweepers, etc.

The position we are currently hiring for will be assigned to the heavy off road shop.

Minimum Requirements

* High school diploma or GED.

* Vocational, technical or trade school training in automotive technology preferred.

* Two (2) years of full-time equivalent experience in the repair and maintenance for the class of vehicles in the shop you are assigned.

* Experience must have included preventative maintenance checks, computerized diagnostics, and complex electrical, mechanical and hydraulic troubleshooting.

* A combination of education and experience may be considered for this position.

* Must be a Certified as a Motor Vehicle Inspector, licensed by the State of Virginia, or the ability to pass the requirements to obtain license within 120-days.

* Must obtain and maintain one (1) ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certification for the class of equipment in your shop within one (1) year of employment.

* Must possess a State of Virginia Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A or have the ability to obtain within 180 days of employment, if assigned to Heavy Off-Road Shop.

* Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driver's record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.

* This position is safety sensitive and is subject to testing for alcohol and controlled substances in accordance with the City's current substance abuse policy.

* Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.

Additional Requirements

* Must possess a complete set of automotive mechanic tools at all times while in this position.

* The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during City emergency situations or at the direction of the City Manager which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
