Under general direction, the person in this position performs responsible work in greenhouse and nursery operations; maintains the equipment such as small engines, electrical motors, irrigation equipment and large equipment such as tractors and backhoes. Performs testing and recording measures necessary for successful planting, care harvesting of plants, and applies pesticides and herbicides as necessary for the protection of the commercial horticulture type of operation.

* Provides general assistance with all greenhouse operations, including assistance with the maintenance of equipment and the greenhouse, operating equipment, performing general horticultural labor, and providing assistance to instructors and students as requested.

* Provides assistance in laboratory operations, including collecting samples, following established testing procedures, operating laboratory testing equipment, and maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities.

* Perform general maintenance tasks around campus, including making minor repairs, changing light bulbs, and replacing air filters.

* Maintain the campus grounds, including mowing, trimming, mulching, weeding, laying sod, and applying fertilizer and pesticides.

* Provide assistance with campus landscaping installations and maintenance.

* Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned, required, or directed by the College. The College reserves the right to assign additional tasks and to alter or reassign job duties as necessary to meet business and operational needs.

* In order to perform these essential functions, the Agribusiness Technician must be present refore, attendance is an essential function.

* High school diploma with one year of postsecondary education with 15 semester hours in-field from a regionally accredited institution and/or one-year experience in-field.

* One year of related experience.

* Knowledge of plants and soils necessary for successful operation of nursery and greenhouse.

* Skilled in the use and maintenance of motorized equipment necessary to the operation of grounds maintenance.

* Skilled in maintaining proper safety procedures.

* Skilled in plumbing and minor electrical repairs.

* Verbal skills to communicate with students and customers.

* Reading skills to understand safety procedures with herbicides and pesticides.

* Ability to work nonstandard hours, including on call assignments.

* Valid driver's license is required.
