Position Title
Custodian – 2nd shift
ScheduleSecond shift: 2:00 pm‑10:30 pm, 3:00 pm‑11:30 pm, or 4:00 pm‑12:30 pm. Two consecutive days off.
LocationHanover, NH. Onsite only.
Position PurposeUnder supervision from the Custodial Squad Leader or Custodial Supervisor, performs a wide variety of custodial tasks, including general cleaning, unskilled building maintenance, event setup, animal and insect control, and recycling procedures. Work involves medium to heavy lifting and is carried out in diverse campus facilities such as laboratories, dining areas, auditoriums, and office spaces.
Responsibilities- Unlock and lock assigned spaces; clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff hard‑surface floors (stairways, restrooms, kitchen areas, laboratories, dining rooms, hallways).
- Vacuum and shampoo carpeted offices, hallways, and common areas.
- Wash windows inside and outside entrance halls; dust office furniture and window sills.
- Clean public restrooms and showers; scour, disinfect, and deodorize toilet bowls and sinks; wipe counters and vanities; polish mirrors; replace and stock restroom supplies.
- Empty office and common‑area trash cans; implement FO&M recycling procedures; pick up and remove trash from building interiors and loose trash from building perimeters to designated areas.
- Change light bulbs, clean light‑fixture lenses, and work on ladders when necessary.
- Perform major event set‑up and break‑down (e.g., ~30 8‑ft tables and 350 chairs); set up tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums, dividers, platforms, coat racks, and covers.
- Sweep dirt and leaves, shovel snow from walkways, spread sand at least 3 ft from all building entrances, set traps for rodents, release captured rodents, and spray chemicals for insect control.
- Track inventory of cleaning materials and equipment; notify the Squad Leader when supplies are low or equipment requires repair or replacement.
- Assist or act in the absence of the Squad Leader as needed.
- Demonstrate commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness; participate in DEI initiatives and training.
- Maintain professionalism and collegiality in all interactions; perform other duties as assigned.
- 1–2 years of custodial experience.
- Ability to work effectively with others, perform moderate to heavy physical labor, lift and carry light‑to‑medium weight objects.
- Willingness to work from ladders and step‑ladders for cleaning fixtures.
- Ability to operate and maintain heavy‑industrial cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, powered scrubbers, buffers, carpet shampooers) and hand‑operated tools.
- Knowledge of safe use of cleaning chemicals and insect‑control substances.
- Familiarity with, or ability to learn, various table/chair arrangements for event set‑ups.
- Willingness to work mandatory overtime when required.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Completion of Hazard Communication and Blood Borne Pathogens training prior to performing related tasks.
