Custodian – 3rd shift

Hanover, NH 03755 – 6 Vox Lane, McKenzie Hall

10:00 pm – 6:30 am, two consecutive days off. Shift differential applied.

• Unlock and lock assigned spaces; clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff hard surface floors such as stairways, public restrooms, kitchen areas, laboratories, dining rooms, and hallways.
• Vacuum and shampoo carpeted offices, hallways, and common areas.
• Wash windows (inside and outside) in entrance halls; dust office furniture and window sills.
• Clean public restrooms and showers; scour, disinfect, and deodorize toilet bowls and sinks; wipe and clean counters/vanities; polish mirrors; replace and stock restroom supplies.
• Empty office and common area trash cans; implement FO&M recycling procedures; pick up and remove all trash inside and around the building perimeters.
• Perform major set‑up and breakdown for college events (average 30 8‑ft tables and 350 chairs). Set up and place tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums, dividers, platforms, coat racks, etc.
• Clean light fixtures and replace light bulbs using a step ladder.
• Sweep dirt and leaves, shovel snow from walkways, and spread sand at least 3 ft from all entrances.
• Set traps to catch rodents and release captured rodents outside; spray inside and outside buildings with chemicals to control insects.
• Keep records of cleaning materials and equipment; notify the Squad Leader when more materials are needed or equipment requires repair or replacement.
• May act in the squad leader’s absence or assist the squad leader as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 1–2 years of experience in custodial work.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others.
• Ability to operate and maintain heavy industrial cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, powered scrubbers, buffers, carpet shampooers) and hand‑operated tools.
• Ability to use a step‑ladder to clean lighting fixtures and replace bulbs.
• Knowledge of safe use of cleaning chemicals and insect control substances.
• Familiarity or ability to learn different table/chair arrangements for event set‑ups.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying light to medium weight objects.
• Willingness to work mandatory overtime as required.
• Completion of Hazard Communication and Blood Borne Pathogens training prior to work.
• Commitment to diversity and serving the needs of a diverse community.
• Physical stamina to lift up to 40 lb and stand, walk, or climb stairs for extended periods.
