Onsite only. Remote work is not eligible.
Schedule:
8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday – Friday, Saturday/Sunday off. Alternate schedule: 8:00 am – 4:30 pm Monday‑Thursday, 6:00 am – 2:30 pm Sunday. Two consecutive days off with either schedule.
Reports to:
Residential Operations Custodial Supervisor.
- Perform cleaning and unskilled building maintenance tasks in student residential facilities, including residence halls, affinity houses, and college‑owned Greek houses.
- Maintain cleaning and bathroom supply inventories.
- Complete work request forms and damage reports for equipment and furniture.
- Implement recycling procedures.
- Communicate effectively with students, answering questions about residential operations policies and procedures.
- On a daily basis: clean and mop all common area floors, stairways, public restrooms, kitchen and snack‑preparation areas, laundry rooms, study rooms, and lounges; vacuum carpeted hallways and common areas; wash windows in common areas; complete damage reports for common areas.
- On a daily basis and following designated schedules: implement FO&M recycling procedures; pick up, bag, and remove all trash inside the building and around building perimeters to designated areas.
- On a weekly basis: apply appropriate finishes to all common area floors and stairways; clean all private bathrooms; complete common area furniture inventory form, noting missing or damaged furniture.
- On a semi‑annual basis: wash windows in student rooms.
- On an annual basis: remove and clean hall light covers.
- On an as‑needed basis: thoroughly clean student rooms as vacancies occur; change light bulbs and clean light fixtures using ladders when necessary; stock all bathrooms with supplies and order bathroom supplies and cleaning materials; check all room smoke detectors and spring‑loaded door hinges for proper operation; remove snow from building entrances at least three feet from all entrances at start of and throughout workday;
answer students’ questions about residential operations procedures and policies; assume responsibility for building trunk rooms, including cleaning and arranging items, enforcing trunk room policy, and, upon request, providing student access; complete damage reports for student rooms.
Required Qualifications
- No formal education or experience required.
- Ability to operate and maintain various machines and hand‑operated tools, such as vacuum cleaners and floor waxers.
- Knowledge of safe use of a variety of chemical substances used for cleaning purposes.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical labor, including lifting and carrying heavy objects.
- Ability to work from ladders to clean light fixtures (typically an 8‑foot step ladder).
- Ability to work in a residential setting and to interact successfully on a daily basis with a culturally diverse student population.
- Must be willing to work mandatory overtime, as required.
- Strong commitment to a diverse working environment and to serving the needs of a large and diverse community.
- Completion of Driver Safety training prior to performing work related to vehicle operation.
- Completion of Personal Protective Equipment training prior to performing work related to PPE.
