UnionUnion positions available to SEIU union members only during the first week of posting (6/8/26 – 6/15/26). After that, the position is open to the general public and other Dartmouth community members.
Job SummaryUnder supervision of the Custodial Squad Leader or Custodial Supervisor, performs a wide variety of tasks including cleaning, unskilled building maintenance, event set up, animal and insect control, medium to heavy lifting within college facilities. This is a 1st shift position with schedules ranging from 4am‑12:30pm to 8am‑4:30pm with two consecutive days off.
Duties and Responsibilities- Unlocks and locks assigned spaces; cleans, mops, strips, waxes, and buffs hard surface floors (stairways, restrooms, kitchens, labs, dining rooms, hallways).
- Vacuum and shampoo carpeted areas; wash windows (inside/outside); dust office furniture and window sills.
- Clean public restrooms and showers; scour, disinfect, deodorize toilet bowls and sinks; replace and stock restroom supplies.
- Empty trash cans, implement FO&M recycling procedures, collect loose trash around building perimeters.
- Change light bulbs, clean light fixture lenses, use ladders when necessary.
- Perform major set‑up and break‑down for College events (tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums, dividers, platforms, coat racks, covers).
- Sweep dirt, leaves, shovel snow, spread sand on walkways; set traps for rodents; spray chemicals for insect control.
- Track cleaning materials and equipment; notify Squad Leader of shortages or repairs; occasionally act in or assist the Squad Leader.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- 1–2 years of experience in custodial or related work.
- Minimum six months to one year experience.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others.
- Physical ability to perform moderate to heavy labor; lift and carry light to medium weight.
- Ability to work from ladders and step‑ladders.
- Operate and maintain heavy industrial cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, powered scrubber, buffer, carpet shampooer).
- Knowledge of safe chemical use for cleaning and insect control.
- Familiarity with event set‑up arrangements.
- Willingness to work mandatory overtime when required.
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Complete Hazard Communication and Bloodborne Pathogens training before performing related work.

POS is a non‑exempt, regular full‑time position with a salary of $24.04 per hour. Scheduled 40 hours per week over 12 months of the year, 1st shift. Union member with SEIU Level
C. Onsite only. No driving essential function.
