Shift may vary; primarily responsible for covering the 2nd shift in Ice Rink between 4:00pm – 12:30am from September to April. Must be able to work nights and weekends.
Prepares, maintains, monitors, and repairs the indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, fields, and equipment. Sets up for a variety of athletic events or special events, including minor non-structural, unskilled carpentry, electrical, touch‑up paint, and mechanical repairs on athletic equipment, program areas, and supplies. All fields and programs must be set up according to the rules and regulations of the specific sport, including any NCAA requirements.
Responsibilities- Makes minor repairs to equipment or vehicles, including day‑to‑day maintenance and emergency troubleshooting and repairs such as reattachment of blades and balancing of carriages on the Zamboni.
- Maintains grounds and interior program areas for all indoor and outdoor athletic facilities and field houses, including athletic events or special events; may involve minor electrical, non‑structural carpentry, non‑potable water plumbing, touch‑up painting, or mechanical functions.
- Assists with job duties of Athletic Crew II under direction of the Assistant Athletics Director for Athletics Grounds and Events.
- Installs, maintains, and monitors rink ice to specifications; maintains rink equipment, spectator seating, protective glass, cabling system, ice‑making equipment; paints ice rink lines and logos, paints ice surface white; may operate Zamboni for ice maintenance.
- Prepares and maintains baseball, football, softball, field hockey, lacrosse, and other fields; lays out field dimensions, lines, and rolls athletic fields per sport’s rules and regulations; repairs divots and maintains grounds.
- Prepares and maintains track facilities; installs track railing, hurdles, pole vault pit, high jump pit, amends sand, marks courses, maintains surrounding areas, and sets up for events such as bleachers, timing system, turf, caging.
- Prepares indoor court areas (basketball, volleyball, squash) for practices, games, tournaments; may perform minor electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or mechanical work.
- Prepares outdoor clay tennis courts: scarifies, levels, installs fast‑dry material, lays out tennis tapes, rolls, with minor electrical, carpentry, plumbing, or mechanical tasks.
- Sets up facilities for a variety of programs, including athletics, contests, in gyms, Field House or other arenas for special events and activities; includes PA systems, athletic equipment, ticket booths, bleachers, flooring, tables.
- High School diploma or equivalency.
- Three to five years of relevant experience.
- Ability to use a variety of hand tools, equipment, some power tools, and shift‑type vehicles.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities in all kinds of weather.
- Willingness to work overtime, nights, and weekends.
- Strong communication skills; ability to interact with administrators, coaches, faculty, vendors, visitors, and the general public.
- Work requires bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in cramped or awkward positions.
- Involves lifting, carrying, and holding objects weighing 25 to 150 lbs.
- Performs tasks indoors, outdoors, in bad weather, and in noisy, dirty, or dusty areas.
- Exposure to hazards such as electrical shock, burns, cuts, and exhaust fumes.
- Requires wearing protective clothing such as gloves, goggles or masks, and ear plugs.
- Complete the following EHS training before performing related work:
Safety, Laboratory safety/Hazardous Waste Management, Asbestos Awareness, Fall Protection, Bloodborne Pathogen Training, Lock out/tag out.
