Job Description

Seeking a custodian for 2nd shift, Monday–Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM. The custodian works to provide students & staff with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to learn, play, develop & work. Position starts 4/6/2026, open until filled.

This position is governed by the Service Employees Union Agreement.

Pay range for this position is $19.30–$28.04 per hour, depending on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Ability to stand, stoop, stretch, reach & bend.
  • Ability to mount & dismount equipment.
  • Ability to push & pull equipment.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to carry 25 pounds unassisted.
  • Ability to smell odors effectively.
  • Ability to see clearly.
  • Ability to climb ladders at least 10 feet.
  • Keep the building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways & play areas neat & clean at all times.
  • Regulate heat and ventilation systems to provide temperatures appropriate to the season and to insure economical use of fuel, water & electricity; call B&G Office for further assistance if needed.
  • Shovel and/or spread sand/salt on walkways & steps as appropriate; if Grounds assistance is needed call B&G Office.
  • Check daily to make sure all exit doors are unlocked in the AM for the start of school and then locked after school begins for the remainder of the day. The main door will remain unlocked for entry.
  • All panic bars on doors are inspected to be in working order and reported if not.
  • Clean floors in classrooms by vacuuming, sweeping or mopping, as appropriate; rooms are cleaned of dust periodically enough to remain dust‑free.
  • Clean corridors after school and/or during the day if condition requires cleaning.
  • Scrub & disinfect restroom floors daily, and clean all sanitary fixtures & drinking fountains daily.
  • Wash all windows inside & outside at least twice a year, or more frequently if necessary.
  • Keep the ground free of rubbish.
  • Maintain all floors in a clean & attractive condition.
  • Report any repairs in need of attention to the Custodial Foreman; make minor building repairs as directed.
  • Conduct an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep & repair.
  • Report all machinery repair needs immediately to supervisor.
  • Report to the building Administrator any damage to school property immediately.
  • Remain on the school premises during school hours and/or during non‑school hours per shift schedule.
  • Assume responsibility for opening and/or closing & securing the building each day. All doors & windows are secured and all lights, except safety lights, are turned off by night‑shift custodians.
  • Move furniture or equipment in buildings as required for various activities & as directed by the Administrator.
  • Dispose of trash, rubbish, waste & recycling.
  • Label all containers following the guidelines of the MSDS system.
  • Report to the Custodial Foreman and look for any daily instructions.
  • Comply with OSHA’s standards 29 CFR‑1910.
  • Security of the building is the responsibility of all custodians.
  • Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.
  • Must comply with all SAU 70 District policy & building/department rules, procedures, practices & objectives.
  • Must check email daily for important communications from SAU & Facilities Depts.
  • Must be able to use internet for Time Cards & Time Off Requests daily.
Evaluation

Performance of duty responsibilities will be reviewed annually by the Director of Facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience: A high school degree or a GED or five (5) years experience is the minimum requirement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as district policy manuals, SDS information sheets and other manuals for equipment used for maintaining the school and the grounds.
