Position PurposeUnder the supervision of the Custodial Squad Leader or Supervisor, perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance tasks, including cleaning, event set‑ups, and pest control, in college facilities. Responsibilities include medium to heavy lifting inside and outside the building and implementation of recycling procedures. This is a third‑shift position.
Responsibilities- Unlock and lock assigned spaces; clean, mop, strip, wax, and buff hard‑surface floors in stairways, restrooms, kitchens, laboratories, dining rooms, and hallways; vacuum and shampoo carpeted offices and common areas; wash windows inside and outside; dust office furniture and window sills.
- Cleans public restrooms and showers; scours, disinfects, and deodorizes toilet bowls and sinks; wipes counters and vanities; polishes mirrors; replaces and stocks restroom supplies.
- Empties office and common‑area trash cans; implements FO&M recycling procedures; removes trash inside the building and loose trash around building perimeters.
- Perform mandatory overtime as required.
- Must not work with or while under the influence of intoxicating substances.
- Use step ladder to clean lighting fixtures and replace bulbs.
- Set traps for rodents and release captured animals outside; spray chemicals to control insects.
- Keep records of cleaning materials and equipment; notify the Squad Leader when supplies are needed or equipment needs repair.
- Act in the squad leader’s absence or assist the squad leader when needed.
- Perform major set‑up and breakdown for college events: set tables, chairs, lecterns, podiums, dividers, platforms, coat racks, etc.; use a step ladder to replace light bulbs and clean fixtures; sweep, shovel snow, and spread sand on walkways as needed.
Education and Experience
1–2 years of relevant custodial experience
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- One year of experience in custodial work.
- Ability to work effectively with others.
- Operate and maintain heavy industrial cleaning equipment (vacuum cleaners, powered scrubbers, buffers, carpet shampooers) and hand‑operated tools.
- Use a step ladder to clean lighting fixtures and replace bulbs.
- Understand safe use of cleaning chemicals and insect control substances.
- Learn event set‑up table and chair arrangements.
- Understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
- Perform moderate to heavy physical labor, including lifting and carrying light to medium weight objects.
- Work mandatory overtime as required.
- Complete Hazard Communication and Blood Borne Pathogens training before performing related tasks.
