Housekeeping

Responsibilities

• Coordinate daily housekeeping services with nursing services during routine cleaning assignments in resident living and/or recreational areas.
• Perform day-to-day housekeeping functions as assigned.
• Empty and sanitize ash trays daily, ensuring ash trays are placed in appropriate metal containers with self‑closing cover devices.
• Clean and polish furnishings, fixtures, ledges, room heating/cooling units, and similar items in resident rooms and recreational areas daily.
• Clean, wash, sanitize, and polish bathroom fixtures; remove water marks from fixtures.
• Clean windows and mirrors in resident rooms, recreational areas, bathrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
• Clean floors by sweeping, dusting, wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, and disinfecting; set up appropriate caution/safety signs before performing such duties.
• Clean carpets by vacuuming, shampooing, deodorizing, and disinfecting.
• Clean walls and ceilings by washing, wiping, dusting, spot‑cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing.
• Remove dirt, dust, grease, film, and other contaminants from surfaces using proper cleaning/disinfecting solutions.
• Clean hallways, stairways, and elevators.
• Discard waste and trash into proper containers and reline receptacles with plastic liners.
• Clean vacant rooms as assigned.
• Ensure work areas are clean and that equipment, tools, and supplies are properly stored at all times, including before leaving for breaks, meals, or the end of the work day.
• Perform isolation cleaning procedures in accordance with established infection control procedures; discard infectious waste into appropriate containers.
• Assure residents’ rights to fair and equitable treatment, self‑determination, individuality, privacy, property, civil rights, and the right to wage complaints are maintained at all times.
• Knock before entering a resident’s room.
• Perform other duties as may be assigned.
• Work in all areas of the facility and move intermittently during working hours.
• Reschedule cleaning activities as needed due to frequent interruptions.
• Engage with residents, personnel, visitors, and government agencies under all circumstances.
• Handle hostile or emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, and visitors.
• Communicate with housekeeping personnel and other department personnel.
• Work beyond normal hours, including weekends and holidays, and assume responsibilities in other positions as needed.
• Respond to mandatory call‑backs during emergency conditions, such as severe weather, evacuation, or post‑disaster situations.
• Work on shifts other than the one for which hired, if required.
• Attend and participate in continuing educational programs.
• Accept exposure to potential injuries from falls, burns, odors, dust, disinfectants, tobacco smoke, and other air contaminants.
• Accept exposure to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions, including TB, AIDS, and hepatitis B viruses.
• Work with hazardous chemicals as required.
