Facilities Custodian
The custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and orderly facility by performing routine cleaning, sanitation, and basic maintenance tasks throughout the building and surrounding areas. Duties include cleaning and disinfecting restrooms and common areas, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming floors, removing trash and recycling, and replenishing supplies. The custodian may assist with room setup and breakdown for meetings or events, monitor building conditions, report maintenance or safety concerns, and support minor facility upkeep.
This role helps ensure that all spaces are properly maintained, safe, and welcoming for staff, visitors, and program participants while following established health, safety, and organizational procedures.
Working as part of the Operations team, the Custodian takes pride in creating an environment that reflects excellence, hospitality, and care for all who enter the facility while supporting the overall mission and daily operations of The Salvation Army.

QualificationsRequirements:
- Able to work with hand tools and small power tools as needed.
- Able to handle various types of equipment- buffing machine, vacuum, leaf blower, lawn mower, etc.
- Must treat all people with compassion and respect.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills and appropriate intervention skills within The Salvation Army required
- Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to drive for The Salvation Army
- Must be passionate about the Mission of The Salvation Army and the Vision of the Chambersburg Corps.
- As a Mandated Reporter, must provide proof of having completed training on recognizing and reporting child abuse meeting the training standards of PA Act 153 of 2014 within 30 days of employment with recurrent training required every five years thereafter.
- Meets the Child Protection Clearances required by PA Act 153 to include PA Child Abuse History Clearance, PA State Police Criminal Record Check and FBI Criminal Record Check.
- Must possess an understanding of and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
