JOB SUMMARY:

The CUSTODIAN is directly supervised by the CENTER DIRECTOR with general supervision from the DIRECTOR OF SENIOR SERVICES. Performs cleaning, maintenance and care of the center; maintains proper inventory of janitorial supplies; assists FOOD SERVICE MANAGER as needed and as assigned; cleans dishes, kitchen, food preparation equipment, or utensils, maintains kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition and performs outside maintenance as deemed necessary by CENTER DIRECTOR;

follows all safety, health and fire prevention standards; performs other duties as assigned.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• PERFORMS CLEANING, MAINTENANCE AND CARE OF THE CENTER: will follow approved cleaning schedule to perform specific maintenance duties as listed daily, weekly, bi-monthly, monthly and quarterly; works with Center Director to make any necessary adjustments or changes to cleaning schedule; notifies Center Director immediately of needed repairs to the building or equipment.
• Clean dishes, kitchen, food preparation equipment, or utensils. Wash dishes, glassware, flatware, pots, or pans, using dishwashers or by hand. Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition.
• MAINTAINS PROPER INVENTORY OF JANITORIAL SUPPLIES: will be responsible for keeping Center Director informed on supplies that need to be purchased; purchases will be made in a timely manner to prevent depletion of products in inventory; responsible for stocking janitorial supplies as received; keeps soap and towel dispensers filled; changes trash bags daily or as needed; will keep storage areas clean, neat and orderly.
• ASSISTS FOOD SERVICE MANAGER AS NEEDED AND AS ASSIGNED: will work with the Food Service Manager performing duties as assigned; as necessary, will help with food preparation (opening cans, bringing food items from storage room to kitchen, running dishwasher, putting up stock, straightening storage rooms, taking out trash, etc.); will assist kitchen staff with monthly inventory and general inventory record keeping.
• PERFORMS OUTSIDE MAINTENANCE AS DEEMED NECESSARY BY CENTER DIRECTOR: outside maintenance may consist of watering grass and flowers, cutting weeds, mowing, trash pickup, etc.
• FOLLOWS ALL SAFETY, HEALTH AND FIRE PREVENTION STANDARDS: will follow all rules, regulations and guidelines to ensure the center is in compliance; will inform Center Director of any deficiencies or problems of the center.
• PERFORMS OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES,

SKILLS:

• Knowledge of health, safety, and fire prevention standards
• Knowledge of appropriate cleaning methods
• Ability to perform minimal heavy lifting and carrying
• Ability to perform maintenance and cleaning
• Ability to operate cleaning machines

• Education of Grammar school or higher.
• Experience in building maintenance and cleaning. (Other job related education and/or experience may be substituted for all of part of these basic requirements upon approval of the Director of Senior Center Services if such substitution does not violate program regulations and requirements)
• Ability to speak, read, write and understand English.
• Must have a clear criminal record status.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, guidelines, policies and procedures.
• Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time.
• Ability to grasp, reach, bend, stoop, kneel, squat, climb and move about freely.
• Ability to travel both short and long distances.
• Ability to lift objects up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
