Do you want to utilize your customer service skills to greet and assist residents at the City's Recycling Convenience Center? If so, the Public Works Department's Recycling Center Attendant may be the right job for you!
The Public Works Department's Recycling Center Attendant position is a part‑time position (no benefits) with a preferred hiring rate of $19.15 per hour. The position requires availability of approximately 20-25 hours per week, including Saturdays from 7:30am to 12:00pm.
As the Recycling Center Attendant, you'll:
- Open the convenience center, including, but not limited to, opening the gates, doors, and bins;
- Greet citizens and answer general recycling/solid waste questions;
- Assist with the sorting of recyclables, bulk material, and yard debris;
- Change the full containers as needed, which requires the ability to operate a forklift or front-end loader;
- Pick up any trash or recyclables from around the facility at the end of each shift; and
- Assist with other departmental duties as needed, including, but not limited to, mowing and weed removal.
This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, and repetitive motions; vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word;
hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, color perception, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving small defects and/or small parts, use of measuring devices, assembly or fabrication of parts at or within arm’s length, operation of machines, operation of motor vehicles or equipment, and determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work;
the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, atmospheric conditions, and oils.
- High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in one of the building trades, recycling, solid waste, or sanitation. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.
- Valid driver's license.
- 18 years of age or older at date of hire.
- Current possession of forklift certification or the ability to obtain within two (2) months of hire date.
The Recycling Center Attendant position requires general knowledge of recycling/solid waste and the ability to establish and maintain working relationships with City employees and the general public.
The selected candidate for this position will be subject to the following screenings and must receive satisfactory results:
- DMV record review;
- Job-specific physical;
- Criminal background check.
