Lead Custodian – Connecticut Valley Hospital (Blue Hills Campus)
Full‑time position (37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM).
Responsibilities- Lead and coordinate daily crew workflow, set priorities and oversee completion of tasks.
- Supervise staff by scheduling, assigning, reviewing work and providing training and guidance.
- Maintain and enforce crew procedures to ensure consistent operations.
- Serve as liaison with other units, agencies, and external officials regarding policies and procedures.
- Perform and support full custodial duties while ensuring adequate supplies and equipment.
- Meet full range of duties as outlined in custodian class specification and prepare reports and correspondence as needed.
- Conduct performance evaluations and recommend policies or standards when appropriate.
- One (1) year of experience in a custodial or housekeeping role that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined below.
- Experience operating and maintaining commercial custodial equipment (e.g., auto scrubbers, floor buffers, carpet extractors).
- Experience with floor care programs, including stripping, waxing, and refinishing floors.
- Experience applying effective cleaning methods, selecting appropriate materials, and adhering to established safety procedures.
- Experience assigning work, monitoring performance, and ensuring quality standards are met.
- Experience coordinating custodial operations in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of building custodial and/or housekeeping work and related equipment.
- Interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to operate, maintain, and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment; use computer software; exercise supervisory ability.
- Medical examination, including drug screening, may be required following a conditional offer of employment. All state employees must comply with Connecticut’s Drug‑Free Workplace Policy.
- Physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity sufficient to perform duties; may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights. A physical examination may be required.
