Position: Medical Technologist, Core Lab - Full-Time, Day Shift

Job Description

Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system, Ingalls Memorial Hospital, as a Medical Technologist in the Blood Bank & Core Lab department. The role includes performing routine tests, operating state‑of‑the‑art instruments, providing accurate and efficient results, quality control, instrument maintenance, and method development for a broad menu of routine and esoteric tests, including antibody identification. This is a 100% onsite opportunity based in the greater Chicagoland area.

Eligible for a sign‑on bonus up to $10,000.

Essential Job Functions
  • Prepares samples for analysis and determines acceptability of samples according to departmental policy and procedures.
  • Performs standard, specialized automated and non‑automated laboratory techniques.
  • Evaluates and interprets results, recognizing and reporting abnormal and critical value results 100% of the time.
  • Accurately verifies results within timeline limits.
  • Operates all laboratory instruments, ensures proper functioning by performing necessary quality control and calibrations.
  • Troubleshoots instrument malfunction and performs major repairs on selected instruments.
  • Maintains records/documentation, processes data, and enters results into the computer system, demonstrating proficiency on the LIS/HIS systems.
  • Can work all workstations within the assigned department/section and be cross‑trained to work at least one other station.
  • Controls and maintains inventory and supplies at an optimum level.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve departmental efficiency through time and cost savings.
  • Provides technical assistance to customers when appropriate and promotes teamwork through communication and support.
  • Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicates issues as they arise to the appropriate parties.
  • Adheres to Standard Precautions, Hospital and Laboratory safety policies and procedures 100% of the time.
Required Qualifications
  • B.S. in biological science and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Technology program plus successful challenge of an accredited proficiency examination is preferred.
  • Alternative: A B.S. degree from an accredited college or university with 32 semester hours in Biology and Chemistry plus an MLT (ASCP) certification and three years full‑time experience in a clinical laboratory in Blood Bank, Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Immunology and Clinical Chemistry within the last 10 years, OR a B.S. from an accredited university and five years full‑time clinical experience.
  • MT (ASCP), MT eligible or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of medical laboratory technical procedures, concepts, and applications normally attained through a baccalaureate degree with specific training in medical technology or successful challenge of an accredited proficiency examination.
  • Knowledge and ability to use laboratory/hospital information systems.
  • Knowledge and ability to use automated and conventional laboratory equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least one year of pertinent laboratory experience.

The pay range is based on a full‑time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed annually. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
