Chemical Material Handling Operator - 3rd Shift ($25.95hr. + $1.00 shift differential)
We are currently searching for an experienced Chemical Material Handling Operator to be based out of Harvey, IL approximately 30 miles south of Downtown Chicago. The job will be 3rd shift (11pm-7am), M-F, occasional Saturdays. Reporting to the Manufacturing Supervisor, this person will be responsible for handling and processing various chemical and physical waste materials, emptying all scrap and paper hoppers and operating the locomotive.
The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2‑3 years’ experience driving a forklift. Experience in lean manufacturing or a business‑system‑based company is a plus.
- Safely operate an industrial lift truck with various material handling attachments.
- Safely operate various manual and mechanical material handling devices.
- Be responsible for all movements of chemicals and waste storage.
- Identify, classify, and separate various materials by sight, smell, or simple chemical testing.
- Maintain an inventory of raw chemicals and waste.
- Operate the waste‑water pre‑treatment unit to process various types of wastewater.
- Change and/or clean the wastewater pre‑treatment unit pumps and filters as required.
- Remove and dump all scrap and paper hoppers.
- Supply mills with any needed chemicals.
- Supply mills with zinc as needed and remove drums of scarfing and zinc dross.
- Move railcars as required and prepare for loading and/or return to the railroad.
- Experience in industrial manufacturing.
- Forklift experience.
- Ability to pass the post‑offer employment process with a drug screen.
- Show progress and/or complete job‑specific training.
- Be well‑versed in Atkore's Business System and the importance of your role to daily operations.
