Job Description
Be a part of a world‑class academic healthcare system at UChicago Medicine Ingalls Memorial Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the Critical Care/ICU unit. This position is 100% onsite and requires that you be based in the greater Chicagoland area.
Eligible for a Sign‑on Bonus up to $15,000
With the Manager’s leadership, the Registered Nurse functions as an interactive resource in clinical nursing and professional practice. The Registered Nurse is responsible for coordinating and performing direct nursing care for patients, utilizes the nursing process, and serves as resource, preceptor, mentor, and leader for physicians, professional peers, and other staff. The RN provides participative supervision to the Patient Care Team in collaboration with the Patient Manager.
EssentialJob Functions
- Collaborates closely with physicians to assess, design, coordinate, implement, and evaluate the patient’s plan of care and outcomes
- Demonstrates necessary skills and knowledge to provide complex nursing skills and delegates tasks to other Care Team members according to unit‑specific competencies appropriate to the age of the patients served (as delineated in the Patient Care Centers Scope of Care)
- Responsible for and monitors the quality of patient care and patient satisfaction
- Accurately and independently pursues professional development opportunities
- Assumes responsibility for ensuring the daily operations of the Patient Care Center are effectively and efficiently maintained
- Works within accepted service standards and supports the Vision of Ingalls Hospital
- Works in partnership with other patient care team members and proactively identifies and provides for the individual patient, family, and physician needs, exceeding expectations and employing appropriate customer relations
- Knows, follows, and actively supports the philosophy, mission, and Vision of Ingalls Hospital
- Adheres to all hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care
- Observes and adheres to all corporate compliance requirements and communicates issues as they arise to the appropriate parties as identified in the Corporate Compliance Plan
- Graduation from an accredited school of nursing with an associate’s degree in nursing or higher
- Must hold a current RN Licensure from the State of Illinois Department of Professional Regulation or a valid temporary permit to practice nursing in the State of Illinois
- Active BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Must have acute care or related experience providing nursing care to patients within at least the last five years
- Completion of basic ECG class within one year of employment; successfully challenges basic ECG final examination if experienced in cardiac monitoring
- Completion of critical care course within one year of employment or current CCRN certification, or successfully challenges critical care exam if experienced in critical care
- Completes advanced cardiac life support (ACLS) program within one year of employment and maintains certification
- Completes code leader program within two years of employment
- Completes sheath removal class within two years of employment
- Once ACLS is obtained, completes NIH Certification within one year

The pay range provided reflects the anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. The pay range is based on a full‑time equivalent (1.0 FTE) and is reflective of current market data, reviewed on an annual basis. Compensation offered at the time of hire will vary based on candidate qualifications and experience and organizational considerations, such as internal equity.
Pay ranges for employees subject to Collective Bargaining Agreements are negotiated by the medical center and their respective union.
