American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for an Emergency Dept position requiring Level I Trauma experience and current IL RN licensure.
Requirements
- Active IL RN license required, in hand
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS
- TNCC and CPI certifications preferred
- Minimum 1 year of experience required, 2 years preferred
- Prior experience in an urban, Level I Trauma ED required
- Teaching hospital experience preferred
- Epic charting experience preferred
- Skilled in trauma care including gunshot wounds, traumatic amputation, and shock/trauma management
- Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and 12-lead EKG/ECG
- Proficient in triage and isolation precautions/PPE
- Experience managing psychiatric emergencies including acute psychosis, suicidal patients, and violent behavior
- Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and starting/maintaining IVs
- Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, ventilated patients, and ABG interpretation
Responsibilities
- Level I Trauma Center Emergency Department serving combined adult/pediatric patients
- 1:4 patient ratio
- Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
- Every other weekend required
- Floating required
- Uses Epic charting system, experience preferred
- No block scheduling accommodations
- Provide emergency care across a wide range of adult and pediatric conditions including respiratory infections, seizures, sickle cell crisis, and spinal cord injuries
- Manage neurological emergencies such as CVA, traumatic brain injury, and ICP monitoring
- Administer emergency medications including IV vasopressors and procedural sedation
- Apply and manage splints for orthopedic trauma cases
- Maximum RTO of 7 days, with no more than 3 days off and no RTO during the first or last week of contract
- First-time travelers accepted
- Local candidates accepted at the same bill rate
- Former UChicago Medicine or Ingalls staff must have a 7-month break in service before returning as a traveler
