OverviewJoin FUCHS Lubricants Co. as a Technical Service Chemist based at our Harvey, IL headquarters. Provide technical assistance and support in the operation and use of metalworking fluids and lubricants for the Industrial Division. This role supports ongoing customer satisfaction and represents an industry-leading service organization.
Responsibilities- Utilize the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) in collaboration with global colleagues.
- Generate and report technical data to support troubleshooting analyses and new business opportunities.
- Review and comment on trend analysis data generated by technicians for FUCHS customer systems.
- Support Sales in troubleshooting, new business opportunities, and quality concerns, including customer site visits when necessary.
- Assist with maintenance of laboratory equipment, interface with vendors on repairs and selection of new equipment as needed.
- Maintain acceptable turnaround times for routine and non-routine analyses as established by the Manager of Technical Services.
- Interface with and provide technical support to Quality Control, Quality Management, Research & Development, Innovation, Application Engineering, and Product Management.
- Write and maintain work instructions for all testing performed by the Technical Service team in accordance with the ISO quality system.
- Implement and prioritize 6S protocols to enhance laboratory organization, safety, and efficiency.
Required:
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree in chemistry, engineering or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in a laboratory environment, preferably in manufacturing.
- Advanced knowledge of wet chemistry.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to a wide variety of audiences.
- Industrial technical service and/or field support experience.
- Ability to think creatively and approach problems with a problem-solving mindset.
- Ability to work in a team-oriented environment to provide excellent service to customers.
- Resilient attitude in difficult and stressful situations.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable:
- Industrial metalworking fluid experience (coolants, lubricants, cleaners, rust inhibitors, quench fluids, grease, forging lubricants).
- Strong analytical chemistry background.
- LIMS administration experience; SQL Server report writing is a plus.
- Experience with XRF, autotitrators, manual titrations, quenchometers, viscometers, Karl Fischer, and flash point testing.
