Custodian Substitutes

A school custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment within educational facilities, performing various cleaning and maintenance tasks to support the school community.

• Cleaning and Maintenance:
  Perform routine cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and sanitizing classrooms, hallways, restrooms, and common areas.
• Waste Management:
  Collect and dispose of waste and recyclables in accordance with school policies, ensuring proper separation of materials.
• Minor Repairs:
  Conduct minor repairs and maintenance tasks, such as changing light bulbs, fixing leaky faucets, and unclogging drains.
• Safety Checks:
  Regularly inspect facilities for potential safety hazards and report any issues to maintenance or school administration.
• Event Setup:
  Assist in the setup and teardown of school events, including arranging furniture and equipment as needed.
• Inventory Management:
  Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, requesting purchases when necessary.

• Education:
  
  A high school diploma or equivalent is typically required. Courses in maintenance, basic repair, and safety can be beneficial.
• Experience:
  
  Prior experience in custodial or janitorial services is a plus, but many custodians start with minimal experience and receive on-the-job training.
• Skills:
  
  Attention to detail, time management, communication skills, physical stamina, and problem-solving abilities are essential for success in this role.

Custodians may work early morning or late evening shifts, depending on the school's schedule. The role can be physically demanding, requiring lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
