Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Job Description
Under the direction of the Licensed Water Plant Operator, performs a variety of duties related to the operation of the treatment plant during the assigned shift. Duties include, but are not limited to routine preventative maintenance on equipment, general housekeeping, inventory of chemicals, collecting water samples from City residents and businesses, and treatment of some solid waste.

- Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is exposed to noise, fumes, or airborne particles, risk or electrical shock and vibration
- The work involves working with toxic or caustic chemicals
- Work requires the use of respiratory and other proper protective equipment
- Incumbent works on a rotating on-call schedule
- Incumbent must have a thorough knowledge of City policies, laws and regulations
- A working knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices
- Ability towork in a team environment, andfoster effective relationships within and outside the Department
- Abilityto communicate orally and in writing, use a personal computer, telephone, and standard office equipment
- Must possess a valid Maryland driver’s license
- Incumbent must be capable of lifting 50 pounds
- This position regularly involves walking, standing, stooping, bending, and climbing
- Ability to pass an annual physical examination, including pulmonary function tests
- Possession of a high school diploma or GED
- Any equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable
- A working knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices
- Obtain a Class 4A Water Treatment Plan Certificate
