Salary Range: School Custodian III, WS-02: $4,672.00 per month
Responsibilities- Directs work of subordinates in providing custodial services for a school;
- Assigns, lays out, inspects, and supervises the work of subordinates to ensure buildings and grounds are kept clean and orderly;
- Personally performs maintenance work on plumbing, electrical fixtures, and woodwork that do not require journey‑worker level trade skills;
- Supervises custodial staff in preparation for special school functions;
- Has charge of cleaning and operational maintenance of special school equipment such as swimming pools, auditoriums, and loudspeaker systems;
- Supervises or participates in the propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants, and lawns;
- Requisition s, receives, stores, and is responsible for janitorial supplies and equipment; takes periodic inventories;
- Maintains records of supplies dispensed and of equipment issued;
- Makes reports on work accomplished and of unusual happenings or accidents;
- Keeps daily time sheets;
- Has security responsibility for the school;
- Turns "night lights" on and off at proper hours;
- May supervise student help when assigned;
- May operate power equipment such as power lawn mowers;
- May perform the typical duties of lower level custodians if necessary.

4 years - At least 1 year of experience must be comparable in nature and scope to that of a School Custodian in state service.
General
Experience:
Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Janitorial or related custodial work such as sweeping, dusting, and cleaning buildings;
- Grounds maintenance work including cleaning, watering, fertilizing, trimming, mowing, sweeping, and raking;
- General laboring experience such as moving materials, furniture, and equipment; loading and unloading trucks; carrying, unloading, and stacking tools and supplies for skilled craftsmen; and digging trenches and ditches.
Supervisory Aptitude: Evidence of supervisory aptitude is required, demonstrated through:
- Successful completion of regular or special assignments that involved supervisory responsibilities;
- Completion of supervisory training courses applied in supervisory assignments;
- Positive supervisory appraisals indicating supervisory potential.
Quality of
Experience:
Possession of the required number of years of experience alone is not sufficient. The applicant’s overall experience must have been of such scope and level of responsibility that it conclusively demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of this position.
