SummaryPerform skilled and semi-skilled generalist work in the maintenance of City streets, parks, trees, irrigation systems and buildings.
Responsibilities- Perform independent and crew semi-skilled general maintenance of buildings, grounds and streets.
- Perform grounds keeping: waters, prunes, trims, rakes, weeds.
- Participate in maintenance & beautification of parks, curbing, parking & related areas.
- Prune, trim and remove shrubs and trees.
- Participate in fertilizing and insect control.
- Maintain City Streets: patch roads, remove trash, line pavement.
- Maintain parks including playground equipment and play areas.
- Operate safely power-driven equipment, including trucks, loaders, sprayers, etc.
- Assist specialist workers in repair projects requiring knowledge of electrical work, carpentry, and plumbing.
- Follow prescribed maintenance schedules and methods of performance.
- Adhere to safe work practices.
- Assist in the operations of the Hawaiian Gardens beautification programs.
- Report citizen complaints to ensure appropriate disposition.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Education and experience that demonstrate possession of the requisite knowledge, skill and abilities, typically high school equivalent.
- Two or more years of experience as custodian, general maintenance worker or groundskeeper.
- Valid State of California driver’s license.
- General maintenance.
- Basic knowledge of one of the skilled trades.
- Simple record keeping.
- Hand and power tools.
- Safe driving.
- Operate a variety of public works equipment safely.
- Apply methods in street, grounds and building maintenance.
- Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Follow written and oral instructions.
- Maintain effective working relationships with other people.
- Be available for stand‑by and emergency call‑outs.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in indoor conditions. Regularly the employee works out of doors. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but occasionally loud.
