Position Overview
The K 8 Math Interventionist plays a vital role in advancing Hazel Crest School District 152 's commitment to high-quality, equitable math instruction. This educator provides targeted, data-driven math interventions for students performing below grade level, with a strong focus on foundational skills, math fluency, conceptual understanding, and problem-solving. The Math Interventionist collaborates with teachers, MTSS teams, and school leaders to strengthen Tier 1 3 math supports, monitor student progress, and ensure all students have access to rigorous, developmentally appropriate mathematics learning.
Essential Responsibilities
Targeted Student Intervention
- Provide small-group and one-on-one math interventions aligned to student needs
- Deliver explicit instruction in number sense, operations, math fluency, and grade-level prerequisite skills
- Use diagnostic assessments to identify skill gaps and plan targeted instruction
- Monitor student progress weekly and adjust interventions based on data
- Maintain accurate records of intervention schedules, attendance, and student growth
- Participate in MTSS meetings to review math data, identify students for support, and document intervention plans
- Support administration of universal screeners and diagnostic assessments
- Collaborate with teachers to strengthen Tier 1 math instruction and ensure alignment with intervention strategies
- Communicate student progress to teachers, administrators, and families using clear, student-centered language
- Model effective math instructional strategies and provide resources to classroom teachers
- Assist teachers in analyzing math data and planning differentiated instruction
- Support implementation of district math initiatives, including fluency programs, curriculum alignment, and family engagement events
- Serve as a collaborative partner in advancing district wide math achievement goals
- Ensure interventions align with Hazel Crest SD 152 curriculum, MTSS expectations, and Illinois Learning Standards
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all district policies and procedures
- Participate in ongoing professional development to remain current on math research and best practices
- Uphold the district's mission of Excellence, Equity, and Engagement in all instructional decisions
- Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)
- Endorsement in Mathematics, Middle Grades Math, or related field preferred
- Demonstrated success teaching math at the elementary or middle school level
- Deep knowledge of:
• Evidence-based math intervention practices
• Foundational numeracy, number sense, and math fluency development
• MTSS frameworks, intervention cycles, and progress monitoring
• Universal screeners, diagnostics, and curriculum-based measures
• Differentiated instruction for diverse learners, including students with significant skill gaps
• Strong communication, collaboration, and data-analysis skills
• Commitment to culturally responsive, student-centered math instruction aligned to district values
- Full-time, school-year position
- Reports to the building principal and collaborates closely with the MTSS team, literacy leadership, and district curriculum office
- Works across classrooms and small-group instructional spaces to support student learning
