Job Overview

The Grounds Technician I performs routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on grounds, parking garages, turf grass, shrubs, trees, and other plants, including courtyards; and on fences, roadways, driveways, parking lots, pavements, walkways, amphitheaters, ponds, and fountains to support operations and sustain Casino buildings and infrastructure.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Complete all outdoor work, even in adverse weather conditions.
  • Perform tasks related to grounds and landscape care, such as seeding, watering, mulching, and transplanting; inspect plant materials for insects, disease, and damage; prune, trim, and cultivate trees, shrubs, ground cover, and flowers; store and care for bulbs and cuttings in winter.
  • Maintain lawns by mowing with riding or push mowers; trim and edge around trees and buildings; weed, thin, and clean flower beds; and set up, adjust, repair, and clean irrigation systems.
  • Carry out general maintenance and repairs of Casino buildings, including installing, removing, repairing, and maintaining landscape lighting, signs, cables, chains, barricades, gates, bicycle racks, posts, fences, and rock walls; repair roadways, parking lots, athletic fields, tennis courts, track, and artificial turf as needed.
  • Remove trash and debris from public areas by inspecting grounds, drains, and manhole covers; rake, sweep, bag leaves and debris; and transport trash to central collection points daily.
  • Pressure wash horizontal, vertical, and overhead surfaces.
  • Paint and stripe parking surfaces and other areas.
  • Maintain cleanliness of parking garage stairwells, elevator landings, and vestibules.
  • Use hazard cleaning products safely and safeguard storm drains from harmful runoff per the Clean Act.
  • Operate light vehicles (pick‑up trucks, tractors, street sweepers, riding mowers) and portable power tools such as saws, pressure washers, grass trimmers, snow/leaf blowers, sprayers, and paint machines, obeying traffic laws and wearing appropriate protective gear.
  • Assist in preventing accidents from snow or ice by removing mowing decks, installing snow‑removal equipment, operating snow blowers, tractors, or mowers, and shoveling or spreading sand, salt, or other substances.
  • Participate in snow‑removal operations with general‑purpose, specialized, or heavy‑duty vehicles such as trunks, stake beds, dump trucks, backhoes, and loaders.
  • Ensure all maintenance equipment is operational through routine cleaning and preventative maintenance.
  • Perform routine and extensive preventative maintenance and repair procedures on parking decks.
  • When outdoor work is impossible, perform indoor duties such as replacing and disposing of light bulbs, painting walls and furniture, providing custodial services, and making minor carpentry, plumbing, or electrical repairs.
  • Prepare written materials (repair status logs, activity logs, etc.) to document activities and communicate information.
  • Inform management of procedures and work‑order status for compliance with health and building regulations.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops, training, and seminars as required.
  • Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability.
  • Work under limited supervision, adhere to standardized practices, and manage within a defined budget, coordinating with other work units when necessary.
  • Demonstrate a positive, cooperative attitude, appropriate grooming and attire, and a strong work ethic.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds without assistance and 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Operate in extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, and dusty environments, often outdoors.
  • Handle exposure to chemicals, lubricants, and hazardous materials used in maintenance operations.
  • Occupy spaces that may involve moderate discomfort or risk, such as operating heavy machinery, wearing protective gear, and dealing with environmental discomfort.
  • Follow local health regulations and the Clean Act regarding storm drains.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
