Maintenance Technician Supervisor

The Maintenance Technician Supervisor oversees a team of maintenance technicians responsible for installing and servicing equipment used in thermal processing and coating applications. This role ensures safe, efficient, and reliable operation of plant equipment and facilities by directing preventive and corrective maintenance activities, coordinating capital projects, and managing maintenance-related budgets and performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise employees who perform maintenance and install equipment used in thermal processing and coating applications.
  • Monitor employees' progress in skills development and identify, assign, and follow up on specific training needs as required.
  • Evaluate team performance and provide ongoing feedback, both informally and through the formal performance management system.
  • Monitor, reinforce, and oversee health, safety, and environmental (EHS) performance within the department and among employees.
  • Diagnose and resolve chronic or acute equipment issues to minimize downtime and maintain reliable operations.
  • Identify, select, assign, and supervise contract personnel performing specialized maintenance work or supplementing department activities.
  • Direct the scheduling of daily and monthly routine and preventive maintenance tasks, coordinating with operations to plan equipment shutdowns when necessary.
  • Utilize computerized maintenance management software (FMX) to manage work orders, document equipment information, and oversee preventive maintenance requirements, including spare parts and predictive actions.
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, circuit diagrams, blueprints, and other technical documents to support equipment and facility maintenance.
  • Work closely with equipment vendors and suppliers to identify and order specialty equipment or parts.
  • Collaborate with the Engineering Manager to manage capital projects, including initiating Capital Asset Requests, creating purchase requests for Cap Ex items, and supervising installation, project milestones, and timelines.
  • Maintain strong fiscal budget responsibility for the plant and maintenance department through organized management of purchase orders and competitive supplier bidding.
  • Assess facility conditions and initiate facility repair and maintenance activities to ensure a safe and reliable work environment.
  • Prepare month-end reporting and update facility maintenance KPIs to track performance and drive continuous improvement.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned or dictated by the position to support plant operations and maintenance objectives.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent plus 5 years of industrial maintenance experience.
  • Ability to supervise and lead maintenance personnel, including assigning work, monitoring performance, and providing feedback.
  • Strong hands-on maintenance repair skills in an industrial environment.
  • Solid understanding of hydraulics and pneumatics systems and their maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, and circuit diagrams.
  • General knowledge of welding, cutting, and brazing techniques used in industrial maintenance.
  • Experience working with furnaces and related thermal processing equipment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and equipment-related issues.
  • Capability to use computerized maintenance management software (FMX or similar) for work order and preventive maintenance management.
  • Awareness of and commitment to health, safety, and environmental (EHS) practices in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Strong organizational skills for scheduling maintenance activities and managing documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technicians, operations staff, vendors, and management.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • College or technical degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance is preferred.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry or with aerospace-related machinery is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with capital project processes, including Capital Asset Requests and Cap Ex purchasing.
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets, purchase orders, and competitive supplier bidding.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced, busy industrial environment.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering and operations teams to align maintenance activities with production needs.
  • Strong attention to detail when documenting maintenance activities and updating KPIs.
  • Interest in expanding knowledge of aerospace industry equipment and advanced machinery.
