Overview

CREW WORKER – City of Henderson, Kentucky. Must submit a copy of driver’s license (no DUI convictions in the previous 5 years) with the application. Must possess or be able to obtain a CDL license within 6 months of hire.

CREW WORKER

Purpose

The purpose of this classification is to perform manual work functions associated with various city departments as assigned.

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Performs manual work activities involving various city department functions; may be assigned street maintenance, traffic control, sanitation, landfill, transfer stations, central garage, parks, cemetery, or other projects.
  • May perform various tasks associated with street maintenance, which may include painting street lines, painting parking space lines, painting curbs, fabricating road signs, installing street signs, repairing/replacing street signs, patching holes in roads, removing snow from roadways, installing/patching storm sewer pipes, clearing ditches, cleaning streets, cutting tree limbs, loading limbs into chipper, applying chemical pesticides, etc.
  • Performs various manual labor functions associated with department projects and activities, which may include breaking concrete, mowing grass, edging/trimming grounds, digging holes/trenches, shoveling materials, lifting/moving heavy materials, picking up debris/litter, directing traffic, etc.
  • Operates a variety of equipment, machinery and tools associated with department activities, which may include a utility truck, dump truck, backhoe, end loader, trencher, tapping machine, tractor, mower, weedeater, leaf vacuum, chipper, shredder, chemical sprayer, paint sprayer, heat lamp vacuum applicator, water pump, air compressor, jack hammer, pipe wrench, pipe cutter, pipe threader, band saw, chain saw, drill press, welder, cutting torch, grinder, post driver, shovel, pick axe, rivet gun, etc.
  • Transports, loads and unloads various equipment and materials used in projects or at work sites.
  • Performs general maintenance tasks necessary to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, cleaning building and work areas, etc.; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; reports faulty equipment.
  • Assists in monitoring inventory levels of equipment, tools, or supplies; initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
  • Utilizes safety equipment and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
  • Prepares or completes various forms, correspondence, reports, charts, and other documents.
  • Receives various forms, reports, work orders, maps, manuals, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate.
  • Communicates with supervisor, employees, city departments, utility companies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, or resolve problems.
  • Communicates via telephone and/or two-way radio; provides information and assistance; takes and relays messages or directs calls to appropriate personnel; returns calls as necessary.
  • Maintains regular and predictable in person attendance during regular business hours of the City of Henderson as required.
  • Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol screening pursuant to the City’s Drug and Alcohol policy.
Additional Functions

Provides assistance or backup coverage to other employees or departments as needed. Performs related duties as required, necessary, or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 5 months previous experience and/or training involving equipment operation, manual labor, or maintenance work in the area assigned; or any equivalent combination…
