Overview
Employer paid benefits – Medical, Dental, and Vision (qualifying dependents included). Pay compensation – Min: $23.05, Max: $35.30. General Maintenance Worker 2 is a skilled and experienced professional responsible for the advanced maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of the hospital’s buildings, equipment, grounds, and critical utility systems. This role is essential in providing a safe, functional, and compliant environment that supports exceptional patient care, staff well‑being, and visitors’ comfort.
The position performs duties independently and may guide less experienced team members, ensuring all work adheres to established standards and regulations.
- Perform complex troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of hospital buildings, equipment, grounds, and critical utility systems. Operate and monitor various facility systems and machinery.
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance (PM) tasks on a wide range of equipment and systems to ensure optimal operation, maximize lifespan, and comply with manufacturer specifications.
- Respond promptly to emergency repair requests, including system failures, equipment malfunctions, and urgent facility issues, to minimize disruption to hospital operations and patient care. Participate in an on‑call rotation as required.
- Ensure all maintenance activities strictly comply with local, state, and federal regulations (e.g., OSHA, NFPA) and healthcare‑specific standards (e.g., DNV). Adhere to and enforce all safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout procedures.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, work orders, service reports, and equipment performance using a computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Collaborate closely with other hospital departments to schedule and coordinate maintenance activities, minimizing disruption to patient care areas. Communicate effectively and professionally with hospital staff, vendors, and contractors regarding project status, repair needs, and system issues.
- Manage and monitor inventory control of materials, tools, and supplies required for maintenance activities, communicating needs for new equipment or parts to the Facilities Manager.
- May provide technical guidance and support to General Maintenance Worker 1 staff, assisting with complex tasks and training.
- The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
- Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Education
- Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent. - Preferred:
Vocational or trade school certification/degree in HVAC, electrical, plumbing, or a related mechanical field.
Licenses & Certifications
- Required:
Valid state‑issued driver’s license. - Preferred:
Relevant licenses or certifications (e.g., EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification, Boiler Operator, Electrical Journeyman, Plumbing Journeyman) are highly preferred and may be required based on specific facility needs or state regulations.
Experience
- Required:
Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in facilities maintenance, with a strong emphasis on healthcare or critical environment settings. Proven experience with complex troubleshooting and repair of building systems. - Preferred: N/A
- Lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 85 pounds independently on an occasional basis.
- Frequently lift, push, pull, and/or carry up to 50 pounds.
- Perform tasks requiring standing and walking continuously for extended periods.
- Stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and climb ladders regularly to access equipment, perform repairs, and work in confined spaces or elevated areas.
- Reach, grasp, handle, and perform fine motor tasks requiring manual dexterity for operating tools and intricate equipment.
- Possess visual acuity to read technical documentation, blueprints, equipment gauges, and safety indicators, and to observe work areas.
- Possess auditory ability to detect and respond to equipment alarms, warning signals, and verbal communication.
