Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator -Henry Fork

Responsibilities

• Monitor wastewater treatment plant and identify needed changes and potential problems.
• Interpret lab data and perform chemical analysis of water samples.
• Operate computer systems to monitor pump stations, plant operations, and alarms.
• Maintain daily records and shift logs of plant operations.
• Review readings from meters, computers, and instruments.
• Perform preventive maintenance on plant equipment.
• Perform grounds maintenance duties as required.
• Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and facilities.
• Respond to emergencies and after‑hours duties as required.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED.
• Mechanical ability and proficiency in mathematical calculations.
• Knowledge of construction drawings, operations and maintenance manuals, and the ability to read and understand them.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a state‑certified Wastewater Treatment Operator’s license (Grade I minimum; higher grades preferred).
• Valid Class C driver's license from North Carolina and a clean driving record per city criteria.
• Minimum age of 18.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to plan, organize, prioritize work and make independent decisions.
• Proficiency in computer use.

The employee must frequently stand, walk, use hands, reach, and perform extended work. The employee must lift and carry 50 pounds, push, pull and move more than 100 pounds. An employee in this position will have successfully passed a “Functional Prework Screen” administered by a professional and impartial third‑party specialist.

This position is safety sensitive and will be part of a random drug testing pool. The testing methodology is handled by an outside, impartial, third‑party vendor.

Work is typically performed in an office and at wastewater treatment plant facilities. Employees are exposed to noise, machinery, moving parts, contagious or infectious disease, and irritating chemicals. Work may be performed outdoors and occasionally in cold or inclement weather and requires the use of protective devices.
