Job Description: The Maintenance Custodian supports the True North mission and is committed to the possibilities in every learner, every day. The Maintenance Custodian will be responsible for the efficient operation, maintenance, and appearance of the district's school buildings and grounds. The Maintenance Custodian will ensure that True North buildings and grounds are maintained up to the standards set forth by the District.

• Participate in the general cleaning and maintenance of the school buildings and grounds as part of an ongoing program of general maintenance, upkeep and repair
• Collaborate with the Head of Buildings and Grounds to develop and implement, in a timely and ongoing manner, a formal preventative maintenance plan for all buildings and grounds needs and requirements
• Perform daily vacuuming, mopping, dusting, trash removal and general upkeep of classroom areas
• Participate in necessary repairs and remodeling to the buildings.
• Rod plumbing of toilets and sinks if needed
• Perform emergency repairs or cleaning services as required
• Report any damage and/or need for major repair to the buildings to the Head of Buildings and Grounds or the Head Custodian
• Complete work orders in a timely fashion using the School Dude system
• Other related tasks as assigned by Head of Buildings and Grounds or the Head Custodian

• Ensure buildings and grounds are neat and clean at all times during the school day
• Perform snow removal using shovel and snow blower. Apply salt to control snow and ice
• Report any damage to the grounds to the Head of Buildings and Grounds or the Head Custodian

• Assist with cleaning and maintenance of filters for all HVAC systems on a regularly scheduled basis
• Operate True North's large cleaning equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, floor strippers, sanders, power hand tools, industrial vacuum cleaners and outside equipment such as snow blowers, district trucks and vans

• Capable to lift boxes up to 80 lbs., stage construction up to 120 lbs., move 40-50 lb. tables and chairs and move up to 200 lb. file cabinets
• Assist with movement of furniture or equipment within the buildings as required for various activities
• Assist with all classroom moves throughout the member districts, as requested by program administrators
• Collaborate with the other staff and member districts
• Exhibit excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team
• Represent True Northin a professional manner at all times
• Other related tasks as may be assigned by the Head of Buildings and Grounds or the Head Custodian

• Basic knowledge of and ability to handle simple electrical wiring projects such as repairing cords on small machines, replacing/installing outlets and repairing lighting ballasts

• Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
• Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
• Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
• Must work in noisy and crowded environments.
• Frequent travel required within geographic boundaries of the member districts

Reports to: Head of Buildings and Grounds, Head Custodian

Compensation and Benefits: Starting hourly rate between $20 - $23 per/hr. Regionally competitive health and dental insurance, IMRF pension, paid time off, and more.
