Maintenance Technician

Primary Function:
To maintain, inspect, and repair the District's electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other physical plant systems and to assist the Director of Operations in ensuring that District facilities operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with Board of Education policies, administrative procedures, and applicable state requirements.

Skills and Knowledge:
Proficiency with basic computer applications and District systems, including web browsers, word processing, spreadsheets, HVAC systems, work order systems, and facility management databases. Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and work collaboratively with colleagues and other District personnel. Foundational knowledge of Board of Education policies, applicable provisions of the Illinois School Code, and best practices related to facilities management and operations.
Ability to effectively and safely use tools, equipment, technology, and systems necessary to perform the responsibilities of the position.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk or hear, and taste or smell. The employee frequently is required to use hands to handle or feel materials and tools. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The employee will occasionally climb ladders over 30', work at elevations over 30' and work in confined spaces.
Work Environment:
Work is performed in school buildings, mechanical and maintenance areas, and outdoor environments. The employee may work in areas occupied by students and staff. The employee is periodically exposed to outdoor weather conditions, mechanical equipment, and noise associated with maintenance and educational environments. The position may require work at heights, in confined spaces, and under varying environmental conditions.
Qualifications:
The employee shall possess the minimum of a high school diploma; experience in facility management and public school system is recommended, including vocational experience in work order systems, spreadsheets and database programs The employee shall engage in collaborative dialogue with peers; maintain records and prepare reports; communicate effectively both orally and in writing. The employee must have foundational knowledge of Board policy and Illinois School Code, best practices in facility management and operations systems;
technology usage; and sound skills specific to social interactions
Working Conditions:
Salary: $34.48-$37.99/per hour (based on skills) plus excellent benefits including health and dental insurance, IMRF Retirement Pension Service Credit, paid sick, vacation, personal, and other benefits in an 8-hour paid workday.
