Job Overview

Provide technical support for high vacuum equipment for PVD and related robotics in Hillsboro, OR, interfacing with customers, troubleshooting installations, and ensuring equipment uptime.

Responsibilities
  • Monitor, inspect, set up, calibrate, and maintain semiconductor process equipment in the field to prevent downtime.
  • Troubleshoot hardware and software related issues and implement solutions.
  • Collect data for software related issues and discuss findings with headquarters in Japan.
  • Accurately document all maintenance activity and provide field service reports.
  • Install equipment control software and maintain a record of software revision history.
  • Participate in the installation of equipment at customers' sites.
  • Monitor stock levels of service parts and equipment to ensure adequate inventory for repair work.
  • Provide training and assistance to customer engineering teams.
  • Effectively communicate with customers, Canon USA, and Canon‑Anelva Japan employees.
  • Escalate serious or complicated repair problems to senior level team members.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Associates degree or equivalent experience required (bachelor's preferred) with 1–3 years of related experience.
  • Experience with multi‑chamber cluster systems and robotics highly preferred.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical and mechanical drawings for troubleshooting.
  • Experience with PLC and other software applications is a plus.
  • Capability to work independently after 3–6 months of on‑the‑job training.
  • Strong analytical skills for problem analysis and resolution.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% by car, air, and overnight; valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Knowledge of problem‑solving roadmaps and methodical resolution approaches.
  • Ability to recommend spare and consumable parts for preventive maintenance and repairs.
  • International travel for training required.
  • Flexible shift work, including compressed shifts as needed to meet customer requirements.
  • Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs.
  • Bilingual communication skills (Japanese/English) helpful but not required.
  • Substantial standing, walking, typing, grasping, talking, and hearing required.
  • Work primarily in a cleanroom environment (full cleanroom suit, facemask, gloves, safety glasses).
  • Adept at visual inspection of small defects, small parts, and operation of machines requiring close visual acuity.
  • Comfortable with exposure to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, scaffolding, high places, chemicals, ultraviolet light, lasers, and confined spaces.
  • Must comply with company safety guidelines and policies during driving and on‑site work.
Required Travel & Work Conditions

A 2–4 week trip to Japan for training during the first six months of employment is required; a valid passport is mandatory. Up to 25% travel may be required. Working conditions include a cleanroom environment, varied physical demands, and time‑sensitive problem resolution.

Hourly rate: $29.20 – $43.73.
