Merrill Gardens at Hillsboro is hiring a Maintenance Assistant to support residents in our senior living community. The role requires a compassionate, responsible individual with a passion for assisting seniors.

• Perform general maintenance projects (installations and repairs) including plumbing, electrical, fire/sprinkler, HVAC, landscaping, carpentry, painting, and equipment repair.
• Understand and apply Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
• Maintain walls, floor coverings, doors, windows, furniture, and woodwork in common areas.
• Prepare surfaces and perform basic painting work.
• Repair and maintain vacated rooms (walls, carpets).
• Handle all in‑house plumbing (sinks, toilets, bathtubs).
• Conduct minor electrical work (light switches, outlets, garbage disposals).
• Paint apartments and common areas.
• Repair, clean, and maintain all carpet, floor coverings, and furniture.
• Complete all work orders promptly and document any unlisted needed work.
• Document safety issues and physical plan deficiencies per local, county, state, and federal guidelines.
• Assist with preventive maintenance and cleaning of community vehicles (buses, cars, vans).
• Participate in safety training and hazard communication development.
• Respond to accidents and emergencies per protocol.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Maintenance Supervisor, Regional Maintenance Supervisor, or General Manager.

• High school diploma or equivalent (must be at least 18 years old).
• 1–3 years of related experience or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated knowledge of building maintenance, electrical, mechanical, painting, plumbing, floor care, heating, and HVAC.
• Preference for knowledge of fire suppression and irrigation systems.
• Preference for motor vehicle maintenance ability.
• Flexible schedule: willing to work evenings and weekends as needed.

The role requires frequent standing, walking, lifting up to 90 lbs, pushing/pulling, and other physical activities. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities.
