The English Second Language Math Teacher is a full-time, on-site position located in Hillside, IL. In this role, the teacher supports multilingual learners in mastering math concepts while developing their English language skills, using differentiated instruction tailored to varied proficiency and ability levels. Daily responsibilities include planning and delivering math lessons aligned with district curriculum and standards, integrating ESL strategies, scaffolding academic vocabulary, and providing formative assessments to monitor student progress.
The teacher collaborates with other content and ESL teachers, participates in professional learning communities, communicates regularly with families and support staff, and maintains accurate records of student achievement and language development. Additional duties may include supervising student activities, contributing to school-wide initiatives, and adhering to district policies and state educational requirements.
- Candidates should possess strong English Teaching and Teaching English as a Foreign Language skills, with experience supporting multilingual or English learner students.
- Candidates should possess effective Teaching and Lesson Planning skills, including the ability to design math lessons that integrate language development and differentiated instruction.
- Candidates should possess familiarity with IELTS or comparable English language proficiency standards and assessments used to monitor student progress.
- Relevant qualifications include a valid state teaching license in Mathematics and/or ESL/Bilingual Education, or eligibility for such certification.
- Additional beneficial skills include strong classroom management, clear communication with students and families, cultural responsiveness, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and support staff.
- A bachelor's degree in Education, Mathematics, ESL, or a related field is required; a master's degree or specialized training in ESL or bilingual education is preferred.
- Experience teaching math to English learners in a secondary school setting and familiarity with district or state curriculum standards are advantageous.
