Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Payroll & HR Generalist to manage payroll and support human resources functions. The ideal candidate will have strong HR and payroll experience, with a background in construction and union payroll, as well as experience in employee benefits administration. This position will serve as a key resource for employees and managers and work closely with the CFO on payroll and HR matters.

HR

Key Responsibilities
  • Serve as a primary contact for employees and managers regarding HR policies, payroll, benefits, and general HR questions.
  • Coordinate recruiting, hiring, and new-hire onboarding, including job postings, candidate screening, employment documentation, background checks, I-9s, and orientation.
  • Administer employee benefit programs, including eligibility, enrollments, qualifying life events, open enrollment, and employee communications.
  • Process employee status changes, including promotions, transfers, compensation changes, leaves, and terminations.
  • Support employee relations and performance management matters, including documentation, corrective action, and escalation of sensitive matters to the CFO.
  • Coordinate employee offboarding and assist with workers' compensation, unemployment claims, audits, investigations, and other HR compliance matters.
  • Maintain the confidentiality, accuracy, and security of employees' payroll, benefits, and other sensitive HR information.
Payroll

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the full payroll process for hourly, salaried, union, and non-union employees across multiple construction sites.
  • Review and validate timesheets, hours worked, job codes, pay rates, overtime, classifications, and other payroll data to ensure accurate and timely payroll processing.
  • Administer union payroll in accordance with applicable collective bargaining agreements, including wage rates, classifications, union dues, benefit contributions, and fringe benefits.
  • Process certified payroll and other project-specific payroll reporting, including prevailing wage requirements where applicable.
  • Process and reconcile union benefit payments, including pension, health and welfare, and other fringe benefit contributions.
  • Process payroll adjustments, including bonuses, PTO, overtime, retroactive pay, deductions, garnishments, and other special payments.
  • Maintain accurate employee payroll records and process new hires, terminations, pay-rate changes, deductions, garnishments, direct deposit changes, and other payroll updates.
  • Respond to employee and manager questions regarding payroll, timekeeping, deductions, taxes, benefits, and other compensation-related matters.
  • Assist with payroll audits and year-end payroll activities, including W-2s, payroll reconciliations, reporting, and supporting documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • 3+ years of payroll and HR experience, preferably in a combined role.
  • Strong knowledge of full-cycle payroll, payroll taxes, deductions, and compliance.
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits, onboarding, and general HR administration.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Construction industry background, including union payroll.
  • Knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, certified payroll, and prevailing wage requirements.
  • Experience with employee benefits administration and open enrollment.
  • Familiarity with payroll and HR audits and compliance processes.
  • Experience with Viewpoint Vista.
