CNC Lathe Machinist
This role offers an opportunity for a skilled CNC Lathe Machinist to work in a high-mix, quick-changeover machining environment in Hillside, IL. You will perform complete setups, changeovers, and on-the-floor programming on CNC lathes to produce precision components while maintaining tight tolerances and high efficiency. The position suits a hands-on machinist who enjoys fast-paced, varied work and takes pride in accuracy, problem-solving, and minimizing machine downtime.
Responsibilities- Perform complete setups and changeovers on CNC lathes for short-run and high-mix production jobs.
- Program and edit CNC lathe programs directly at the machine using G-code.
- Load and secure tooling, fixtures, and raw materials to meet job specifications and production requirements.
- Interpret blueprints, job routers, and technical drawings to ensure accurate and efficient production.
- Conduct first-piece inspections and in-process checks using precision measuring instruments to verify part quality.
- Make necessary tool offsets and machine adjustments to maintain tight tolerances and consistent quality.
- Troubleshoot machining and program issues at the machine to reduce scrap and minimize downtime.
- Maintain production efficiency and throughput in a quick-changeover, high-mix/low-volume environment.
- Use hand and power tools, as well as shop equipment, safely and effectively in daily operations.
- Follow all established safety and quality procedures and maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to address production challenges and improve processes.
- Document and communicate any issues related to tooling, machines, or quality as needed.
- Minimum of 3+ years of CNC lathe machining experience in a production environment.
- Proven ability to perform CNC lathe setups and changeovers independently.
- Hands-on experience programming CNC lathes at the machine using G-code.
- Strong blueprint reading skills with a solid understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Proficiency with precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, and related instruments.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain tight tolerances and high-quality standards.
- Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-mix/low-volume machining environment.
- Experience operating and setting up CNC lathes with controls such as Fanuc and Haas.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining and program issues at the machine.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and familiarity with machine shop practices.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, including job routers and technical documentation.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience using Mastercam or similar CAM software for programming support.
- Familiarity with manual machining operations and conventional machine tools.
- Knowledge of multi-axis CNC lathe machining and complex setups.
- Experience working with a variety of materials in a high-mix environment.
- Comfort using hand and power tools in a machine shop setting.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to continuous improvement.
- Effective problem-solving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a shop team.

WorkEnvironment
This role is based in a very clean and spacious tool shop equipped with brand new, well-maintained machines and bright, well-lit work areas. You will work on CNC lathes, including equipment with Fanuc and Haas controls, and may use Mastercam and other programming tools. The schedule is a 1st shift position, Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., providing consistent daytime hours.
