Job Description
Intertek is actively seeking a Building Science Testing Technician to join our Building Science Solutions team in Hillside, Illinois. This role focuses on field testing, observations, and inspections of construction materials for new construction and retrofit projects. The position involves working on commercial, residential, higher education, healthcare, and large municipal projects and may require up to 25% overnight or out‑of‑town travel.
ScheduleMonday – Friday core business hours (may vary slightly).
Compensation & BenefitsBase wage: $28–$35 per hour depending on experience. Compensation packages are tailored to include qualifications, experience, and job‑related factors. Responsibilities- Perform a variety of testing, project‑specific observations, and site assessment duties under direct supervision or from detailed controlled procedures.
- Operate testing equipment and conduct testing (e.g., air and water infiltration).
- Provide assessment of data through reporting.
- Work utilizing drawings, specifications, and diagrams.
- Use specific methods to observe site activities and perform tasks.
- Make detailed observations and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Maintain detailed documentation and data from test results.
- Communicate effectively with clients and project teams.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- General construction, carpentry, or construction testing experience.
- Experience using power tools.
- Technical competency to understand and communicate test procedures, specifications, and results; mechanical aptitude required.
- Safety awareness and adherence to safety practices and policies.
- Physical ability to lift 50 pounds or more, sit, stand, crouch, bend, climb stairs and ladders, crawl, push, pull, etc. as necessary.
- Ability to follow directions and work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to travel up to 25% overnight/out of town.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable driving record required.
- Degree in a technical field desired, or equivalent related experience.
- Background in construction, glazing, roofing, or similar general construction areas.
