Maintenance Man
General Maintenance & Repairs
Perform routine and preventive maintenance on school buildings, equipment, and systems
Conduct minor repairs in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and painting
Inspect facilities regularly and identify maintenance needs
Report major repair needs to the Director of Facilities and Building Principal
Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in safe, clean, and orderly condition
Building Operations & Safety
Ensure buildings are safe, secure, and fully operational during occupancy
Check doors, locks, panic hardware, and exits to ensure proper function
Respond promptly to facility-related emergencies and safety hazards
Assist in maintaining compliance with safety and facility regulations
Grounds & Seasonal Maintenance
Remove snow and ice from sidewalks, driveways, steps, and parking areas
Apply salt, sand, and other materials as needed for safety
Maintain exterior grounds in a clean and orderly condition
Assist with landscaping, waste removal, and general site upkeep
Support of School Operations
Move furniture, equipment, and supplies as needed for school activities and events
Support setup and breakdown for school programs and district functions
Coordinate with custodial and facilities staff to ensure smooth operations
Substitute for custodial or related staff as directed by administration
Work Procedures & Accountability
Complete assigned work orders in a timely and efficient manner
Analyze tasks in advance to determine required tools and materials
Maintain accurate daily work logs and submit reports as required
Obtain approval from the Director of Facilities prior to making purchases
Follow district procedures for tools, materials, and inventory control
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and reach for extended periods
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds or more as needed
Frequent use of hand and power tools, ladders, and maintenance equipment
Work in indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to weather conditions, dust, noise, chemicals, and cleaning agents
Ability to respond quickly to emergency or urgent facility issues
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with facilities staff, administrators, and contractors
Requirements
Satisfactory physical condition to perform manual labor requiring moderate to heavy physical strength
Educational or practical experience in school or plant maintenance or skilled trades (carpentry, electrical, plumbing, masonry, painting, equipment repair, etc.)
Ability to obtain Black Seal License within one (1) year of hire, if required by assignment
Ability to work independently and respond to emergency situations
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalency
Valid NJ Driver License
Criminal history background check
Proof of US citizenship or legal resident alien status
Compensation
Per Hoboken School Employees Association (HSEA) contract
