William Rainey Harper College’s Dental Hygiene seeks a licensed dentist to fill a part‑time clinical position. The Illinois Dental Practice Act requires that a dentist be present in the dental hygiene clinic while students are providing dental hygiene services. We seek clinicians who are passionate about dentistry and dental hygiene and who would enjoy adding the rigor of teaching in an academic setting to their professional practice.
Our clinical program prepares dental hygiene graduates to provide comprehensive care to adult patients with periodontal disease.
- Assessment of patients’ readiness to undergo dental hygiene treatment; care is provided to many adult patients with moderate to advanced periodontal disease.
- Administration or supervision of students’ performance in the administration of local anesthesia, both field and nerve blocks (IAN, PSA, IO, MSA, ASA, GP, and NP).
- Evaluation of students’ performance and competency related to dentition charting, sealant application, study model preparation, pain management procedures, and radiographic image capture and interpretation.
- Other responsibilities are detailed in the job description provided to candidates participating in an interview.
Probably Wednesdays beginning spring semester 2025 and as a substitute during other weekdays as needed: 7:45 am – 5:45 pm.
Candidates will need to be available to attend at least two annual department meetings and must be willing to participate in program-hosted and other recommended professional development activities/courses to maintain compliance with the Commission on Dental Accreditation’s accreditation standards. The standards require faculty in dental hygiene programs to maintain a current background in educational theory, methodologies, and concepts related to teaching assignments, as well as required continuing education for licensure maintenance.
